Laser dentistry has evolved to become a key part of modern minimally invasive care. In 2025, new-generation lasers are designed to treat both hard tissue (enamel, dentin, bone) and soft tissue (gingiva, mucosa) with precision, comfort, and faster healing.
At The Dental Roots, we believe in combining cutting-edge technology with patient comfort. That’s why we’ve integrated advanced laser dentistry into our practice, enabling us to treat both hard tissues and soft tissues with precision, speed, and minimal discomfort. This technology even makes procedures like painless tooth extraction a reality for our patients.
What is Laser Dentistry?
Laser dentistry uses concentrated beams of light energy to interact with tissues. Depending on the wavelength, pulse mode, and power, lasers can cut, ablate, vaporize, coagulate, disinfect, or stimulate healing. In dental settings, different laser types (erbium, CO₂, diode, Nd:YAG, etc.) are used depending on the application.
Hard Tissue Applications
Lasers are highly effective for:
- Caries removal / cavity preparation — selectively removing decayed enamel/dentin while preserving healthy tissue
- Enamel conditioning / surface modification by improving adhesion for restorations
- Bone contouring / osteoplasty in surgical procedures
- Endodontic (root canal) disinfection and activation of irrigants by reaching into tubules that mechanical files can’t.
Using erbium lasers (Er:YAG, Er,Cr:YSGG) or certain CO₂ variants, we can cut or sculpt hard tissue with less vibration and often less need for anaesthesia. Careful cooling/water spray and pulse control are essential to avoid overheating the pulp or creating microcracks.
Latest technology:
• Er:YAG (2940 nm) and Er,Cr:YSGG (2780 nm) lasers remain the gold standard for enamel and dentin cutting.
• 2025 devices (like Fotona LightWalker II, Waterlase iPlus Premier) use adaptive pulse modes and AI-assisted feedback to deliver energy precisely without overheating.
• Faster ablation rates, less noise and vibration, and reduced need for anaesthesia are major patient benefits.
Soft Tissue Applications
Lasers shine in soft tissue work, including:
• Gingival recontouring, crown lengthening, frenectomy, operculectomy
• Periodontal pocket debridement and bacterial reduction
• Removal of fibromas, lesions, or hyperplastic tissue
• Haemostasis (reducing bleeding) during incisions
• Photo biomodulation (low-level laser therapy) to speed healing, reduce pain or inflammation
Diode lasers or CO₂ lasers are commonly used for soft tissues because of good absorption in pigmented tissues and haemoglobin, which provides great haemostasis.
Latest trends:
• Diode lasers (810–980 nm) are smaller, portable, and ideal for cutting, coagulation, and bio stimulation.
• CO₂ (9.3 µm) and Nd:YAG (1064 nm) wavelengths offer superior haemostasis and faster wound healing.
• Integration of AI-based preset modes simplifies use and minimizes thermal damage.
Advantages for Patients & Clinicians
• Minimized pain & discomfort
Many procedures are more tolerable or even anaesthesia-free
• Reduced bleeding and swelling, due to simultaneous coagulation
• Faster healing with less trauma
• Sterilization effect
Lasers help eliminate bacteria in periodontal or canal spaces
• Precision
Lasers have ability to target small areas without affecting adjacent tissue
• Better patient experience with less noise, vibration, and fear
At The Dental Roots, our specialists have integrated state-of-the-art laser systems for both hard and soft tissue dentistry.
Our experienced team, led by the best root canal specialists and cosmetic dentists in Delhi ensures every procedure is performed with exceptional precision and patient comfort in mind.
